A simple nod to the brother across the street,

A warm hearted smile to the sister in the moving bus,

A joyous wave to the cute little kid at the playground,

All simple signs of Ubuntu to the African diaspora,

Simple signs to remind you of who you are.

I am who I am because of you are,

Umoja na undugu for united we stand divided we fall,

A shame for me to exist when a brother wallows in suffering,

For we caring about another represents life's greatest value,

All in the spirit of Ubuntu.

In the words of brother Barack:

We are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye,

There is oneness to humanity,

We achieve ourselves by sharing ourselves with others,

And by caring for those around us,

Because we carry the spirit of Ubuntu in us.

Communality, respect. dignity, value, acceptance,

Sharing, co-responsibility, humaneness, social justice,

Fairness, personhood, morality, group solidarity,

Compassion, joy, love, fulfilment and conciliation,

Core principles of Ubuntu, that each and every one of us should poses,

for the spirit of Ubuntu is alive
